A common question from traders is: "What does the Flip Trade button on my open position do?" Flip Trade lets you switch an open position to the opposite direction in one action, instead of manually closing the position and opening a new one yourself.
How It Works
When you tap Flip Trade on an open position, one action does the following:
- The current open position is closed.
- A new position opens on the same instrument, with the same size, in the opposite direction.
Normally, reversing a position takes two separate steps: closing the trade, then placing a new order in the other direction. Flip Trade combines both steps into one.
What Happens to Your Position
- Before Flip Trade: You hold an open position in one direction (for example, a buy).
- After Flip Trade: That position is closed, and a new position of the same size opens in the opposite direction (in this example, a sell).
Note: Any profit or loss on the position that was closed is locked in as soon as Flip Trade executes. This cannot be undone.
Spread and Costs
- Flip Trade itself is free to use — it is a core execution control on the platform, not a paid add-on.
- A spread is charged only on the new position opened by Flip Trade (the reversal side).
- No spread is charged on the position that is being closed.
If Flip Trade Cannot Be Completed
Flip Trade is an all-or-nothing action. If the platform cannot complete the full Flip Trade action, no partial change is made to your position. Your original position stays exactly as it was before you tapped Flip Trade.
Availability
Flip Trade is a platform feature. Where it appears, and whether it applies to a particular instrument or account, may depend on your account and the platform you are using. If you don't see the Flip Trade option on an open position, contact support to check availability for your account.
